148Apps

Suppose you were about to be stranded on a desert island and could only install 148 apps on your iOS device before being marooned. Which would you choose? Well, you can now see what one website has prepared as the Top 148 iOS apps by going to 148apps.com.

According to their website, 148Apps is a founding member of the Organization for App Testing Standards, and has been reviewing apps for quite some time. They base their choices for their picks on Apple Store sales and their own experience with the apps.

It’s not surprising that it seems like all the top listed apps are games. Scrabble was their number one choice of any sort of app genre when I researched this article. However, you can find apps by category, and there is a listing of productivity apps. Facebook, Skype and The Weather Channel were popular non-game titles.

iHeard A Rumor

Wednesday, March 2nd is the date for an Apple event taking place in San Francisco. Rumored to be the focus of the meeting is the announcement of an iPad 2. Building on the momentum of the current iPad, this new device will be faster, lighter, and more capable. How much more capable? Well, that’s where the rumors come in, but a built-in teleconferencing system, and less weight are just two of the many predictions swirling around the ether. After the conference, I’ll post up a quick update, and opinions about the announcement.

New Life for Old Gadgets

Maybe you’re thinking about getting a new smartphone. But what do you do with your old device? Well, you might want to clean it up, erase the data, and gather all the cords, cables, chargers, manuals and boxes you can find that came with it. Take my iPhone—please!

There was a TV show back in the days of broadcast television called Hee Haw. From what I can recall of the show, it featured a comedy vignette where one of the show’s troupe would be in the doctor’s office, complaining of some ailment.

“Hey, Doc,” the patient would explain, “it hurts whenever I do this.”

The patient would then demonstrate the body movement that caused the distress. For this, the patient would usually get a resounding, “Well, don’t do that!” (more…)
