Getting to the Bottom of It

Now, I’m assuming that all my SOHOBE Newsletter readers are adults. Even so, there may be a bit of blushing, and perhaps a giggle or two elicited by this month’s subject. But I feel that there is a subject that many readers and clients have inadequately addressed. So, in this newsletter, I want to talk about bottoms. Sony Laptops Overheating

I’ve reported before on laptop batteries from Dell, Sony and other companies overheating. This latest overheating issue is, however, slightly different in that, this time, the battery is not the culprit. Clients who are using Sony Vaio laptops should be aware that certain models are overheating due to a flaw in the internal temperature management system. According to the Sony support website, the issue effects the VPCF11 and VPCCW2 lines of laptops. Certain models in those lines could become hot enough to melt the case, distort the keyboard, and even burn the user. While the likelihood of overheating to this point is characterized as “rare,” Sony recommends that owners download and install a firmware update specifically designed to address the problem. Clients who need help with this issue should contact me at once if they are unable to download or install the firmware update themselves.

However, I just want to quickly readdress the issue, just in case there is someone who has purchase a laptop recently. The issue usually centers on the laptop’s battery overheating. This can cause damage to the laptop itself and result in warping or cracking of the LCD display panel. In more extreme instances, the batteries can catch on fire. (more…)
