So, does your nonprofit have a strategy that would allow it to leverage slacktivism? Did you even know that it should? Just like there are a few nonprofits that still don’t include Technology as a line item in their budgets, some nonprofits may not be aware that they should be including SoMe (Social Media) as part of their “awareness” efforts. But what is slacktivism? Although a pejorative term, slacktivism refers to making it incredibly easy for your nonprofits members and admirers to promote your nonprofits’ efforts. (more…)

Twitter Usage
I have notice that more people are incorporating their Twitter IDs into their correspondence. However, the usages I’ve observed are a mishmash of different styles. So, after an hour and an Aldi chocolate bar, I have come up with my own rules of Twitter User ID Usage (or TUIDU for short). Let me assure you that while the science behind this research might not be very good, the Aldi chocolate bar was.
If you want people to see your general Twitter page, which lists out the past few Tweets you’ve made, your Bio, and who you are following, use the URL approach. For example, if your nonprofit is FaboNonProfit, you would do something like this:
(888) WE-R-FABO
www.fabononprofit.org
www.twitter.com/fabononprofit
Naturally, you may omit the www on the twitter URL, especially if you would omit it on your own URL.
If, on the other hand, you’re being more specific, or talking to someone who you deal with as a peer, you may want to connect with them directly. In that case, I feel the following would be appropriate:
(401) 937-3226, Ext. 301 (or your direct dial)
personsname@fabononprofit.org
@fabononprofit
The @ symbol, at one time exclusively used for e-mail addresses, is now a shorthand way of identifying a Twitter user ID. Note how the @ is the very first character, and that there is no dot-whatever as would be required in a correctly formed e-mail address.
So, there you have it. Next, I may direct my resources to LinkedIn, and how to best incorporate that into your correspondence. After all, I am out of chocolate bars, and I need an excuse to get more.
